Are you an experienced editor with a passion for interior design? Are you tapped into the latest design trends, bursting with decorating ideas and obsessed with mood boards, flat lays and home-design hacks? Are you as confident overseeing a home shoot as you are interviewing a famous architect? If so, you might be just the person we’re looking for to head up Home Journal, Hong Kong’s leading interior design magazine. As editor, you will be in charge of overseeing the production of the monthly print magazine, annual supplements and the brand’s digital and social media platforms. As well as writing, editing, commissioning, proofing and other daily managerial tasks, you will set the creative vision for the brand, develop digital output, grow the online audience and spearhead brand-building and revenue-generating projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a solid editorial direction and strong creative vision for the development of the Home Journal brand
  • Oversee the entire production process of Home Journal’s monthly magazine, annual supplements (Home Solutions and Home Buyer’s Guide) and digital platforms / social media channels
  • Develop and execute a digital content strategy with the goal of driving audience growth
  • Manage the Home Journal editorial and creative team to complete their tasks in a timely and effective manner
  • Produce, write, edit, style and shoot home and lifestyle features for the magazine, carefully selecting stories that will appeal to the magazine’s loyal readership
  • Manage all the freelancers and work with the HJ team in commissioning contributors
  • Work with the sales team to actively seek out potential brand building and revenue generating activities and help them from concept/brainstorming to final execution
  • Liaise with editors of HongKongTatler.com on digital content as well as partner magazines in the region (e.g. Tatler Homes) on stories and coverage
  • Attend and represent Home Journal at art, design and lifestyle events to help raise the profile of the brand


Professional Requirements

  • Degree holder with at least 4 years’ experience in a senior editorial role (magazine preferred)
  • Proven experience in using content management systems, analyzing audience data and creating click-worthy stories for the web and social media
  • Excellent communication skills – strong writing and editing skills in English required; proficiency in Cantonese (writing and speaking) an advantage
  • Passion for and sufficient knowledge of design, architecture, interiors and lifestyle
  • Strong visual eye – styling / shoot production skills definitely an advantage
  • Enthusiasm for working with a leading homegrown design brand and a multicultural editorial / sales team
  • Good networking skills; journalists with existing contacts in the design and lifestyle industry an advantage
